Nursery Guidelines
Use of Nursery Facility
The rooms in the nursery are to be used only for nursery and Missionette classes. Any other use should have prior approval. A written request may be submitted to Pastor Billy Ginn.
Care of Nursery
Classrooms are to be neat and orderly before teachers leave. Toys are to be put back on shelves. Trash must be removed from the room and taken to the gym and placed in a trash can containing a big green trash bag. If you use cups that need to be washed, please remove them from classroom and place them on the desk at the nursery entry. Please clean tables and spray them as well as the empty trash cans with disinfectant. Teachers of children two years old and under must sanitize toys. Clorox wipes are provided.
Please inspect toys and equipment weekly and dispose of broken items.
Vacuum the carpet if needed. Vacuum Cleaner is located in closet in hallway facing nursery entry. Sweep floors.
Staffing the Nursery
We will have paid teachers in each classroom as well as volunteers. Volunteers must be 13 years of age or older. At times, younger teens may be in the nursery at the discretion of the nursery coordinator. (For example, children of nursery workers.) We are asking parents or grandparents or guardians to volunteer their services in the nursery at least for one service every other month. Please sign up in the entry for your turn. All persons working in the nursery must complete background checks. A form will be provided. We will try to maintain suggested teacher/child ratios as per the state of South Carolina. It is our goal to have two adults in a classroom at all times.
Please be in the classroom at least 15 minutes prior to the start of service.
Gloves are provided for diaper changing. Teachers will be provided with First Aid and CPR training if requested. The Nursery Coordinator has had ongoing training in these areas.
Any supplies needed for your classrooms should be requested in advance through the Sign-up sheet provided on site. Depending on the use of these supplies, they will be provided either through the nursery or the Sunday School budget.
If you are scheduled to work in the nursery and are not able to for any reason, please notify Sherry Henry at least one hour prior to the beginning of your scheduled time. (803 831-7797)
In the event of a complaint, we will investigate the situation and try to come up with an amicable solution. The pastor is always advised of any complaints.
Signing Your Children In & Out
Children will be checked in and out at the front desk. Your child will be given an ID number. In the event that your child needs you for any reason, his or her ID number will be displayed in the red boxes above the stage. When registering your children for the nursery, please provide a list of people that may pick up your child. This person must be at least 12 years of age.
LWC will use the cutoff date that the Clover school system uses to place children in classrooms. Children must be born on or before September 1st to be placed in a classroom. A child may be moved early at the nursery coordinator’s discretion.
Health Issues
LWC strives to provide a healthy environment for all children in our care. With that said, we ask that sick children do not attend the nursery. Children with fevers of 100 degrees or more will be asked to leave. A child should be free from fever for at least 24 hours before attending.
Do not bring your child to the nursery with:
- a fever
- a yellow or green discharge from nose
- excessive coughing
- pink eye
- any communicable diseases (e.g. chicken pox)
- undiagnosed rashes
- diarrhea or vomiting within 24 hours
- parasites such as head lice or ringworm
If your child has had any of the preceding ailments, please be sure that they are completely well before they return to the nursery.
If your child contracts a communicable disease, parents must report the disease to the nursery teacher or coordinator. All parents will be notified in writing when a child in the class has contracted a communicable disease.
In case of severe injury, parents will be notified immediately. Teachers will not be permitted to administer medicine. Parents must advise teachers if diaper ointment needs to be applied.
Discipline Policy
Our teachers use positive reinforcement and redirection in our classrooms. Praise and positive reinforcement are effective methods of behavior management. However, time outs will be used if a child is in danger of hurting himself or another child.
What to bring for your child
Bring your child age two and under a diaper bag. It should contain:
- diapers
- wipes (if your child is sensitive)
- bottles or sippy cup (labeled with your child’s name)
- a pacifier (if your child uses one)
- a change of clothing
Please help us by labeling your child’s diaper bag. Labels are available in the classrooms.
Snacks
Age- appropriate snacks and drinks will be served. Please make teachers aware of any allergies or concerns.
Birthdays
Parents who wish to celebrate their child’s birthday at LWC are welcome to provide a special snack for the class. The snack should be prepackaged. If you do not wish for your child to receive a snack, please advise his or her teacher.
